By Ab Flyer | Mar 11, 2010

14. Asian. 119 lbs. 11.7% body fat (my trainer told me)

There is an event coming up very soon and I want my abs to look good.

Can I do them everyday? When cant I?
For example, today, I am only a bit sore. Can I do my excercises again?

also, should i do them with weight resistence?

tips? advice?

The abs are still muscles, and need at least a day between working them to point of fatigue.

do abs every other day, even though they dont feel sore they still need time to heal.

Lowering one’s body fat is the most effective path to a six pack. Yes, even lower than 11.7%.

If you are training your abs with low resistance movements that allows high reps, say 50 or more, then daily workouts are okay.

If you are using high resistance or high difficulty movements that are so hard that only 15 or less reps per set can be done, then you need a day in-between workouts for rest.

Keep in mind that a primary function of the abs is to provide stability to your spine. Therefore, it is important to strengthen the muscles all the way around your waist: front abs, side abs (obliques) and low back muscles (spinal erectors).

If you are sore, rest until the soreness subsides. You don’t need to workout so intensely that you are sore to develop good abs. Start with a moderate intensity program and give your body time to adjust to the demands, then regularly increase the reps, resistance, sets, etc.

Personally, I like to use resistance to create strong abs. Gymnastic type movements are also helpful.
