You can work your upper and lower abs, obliques, upper and lower back and a variety of other muscles, depending on the exercises you do. The great thing about an exercise ball is that you can exercise more than one muscle group at once which is more dynamic than simply doing say 50 crunches.

Personally, I find an inflatable fitness ball does only 1 thing; stretches the muscles. You can do the same thing, and better, by doing simple daily stretching exercises. And you do not have to try to balance yourself on the ball.
